The Ultimate Guide to Creating the Perfect TV-Doctor Halloween Costume

Did you always dream of becoming a doctor but gave it up to follow another passion? Maybe you’re obsessed with television medical dramas?

Whatever your motivation, being a doctor for a day sounds like a lot of fun, right?

That’s what Halloween is all about anyway, dressing up as someone or something else for a day.

So, even if you didn’t quite make it to medical school, I’ve got a treat for you. Your very own Halloween costume guide to becoming one of fiction’s favourite doctors: Doctor Who, Doctor House, Doctor Mindy Lahiri or Doctor Frankenstein.

Get the Look
It’s not hard to get these docs’ looks. You don’t have to search any further than your own closet or local second-hand store to complete the look of your character of choice. With a little help from our how-to-guide, you’ll have an original and inexpensive costume just in time for your Halloween event!

  1. 1. Dr. Who:

Dr. Who is not your typical doctor. In fact he’s a British, time-traveling humanoid alien (also known as a time lord). As the main character in the popular British science-fiction program, Dr. Who battles injustice while exploring time and space. His looks have certainly changed over the years, however his most recent look is the easiest to emulate.

What you need for this costume:

  • Button up shirt
  • Suspenders
  • Bowtie
  • A fitted tweed blazer
  • Slender neutral coloured pants
  • Brown shoes or boots
  • • Make your own sonic screw driver. The sonic screw driver is used to perform a number of operations such as medical scans, controlling other devices, fighting aliens, controls atoms and molecules, opens locks and operates computers.
  • Attempt your best British accent
  1. 2. Dr. House:

This doctor is known for his (at times) unconventional methods, sarcastic wit and smarts. Dr. Gregory House is the main character of the American medical drama, House M.D, where he acts as the team lead for a group of diagnosticians at a teaching hospital in New Jersey. Not scary enough for you? You should see his bad side.

What you need for this costume:

  • A black blazer
  • A blue button-up collar shirt or white t-shirt
  • Jeans
  • Sneakers
  • A cane
  1. 3. Dr. Mindy Lahiri

She’s smart, funny and beautiful. This doc stars in her own television show, The Mindy Project.
As a young obstetrician and gynaecologist in New York City, Mindy hilariously attempts to take on life’s challenges while trying to balance her career and personal life.

She’s sassy but classy and she’s a perfect pick for your Halloween ensemble.

What you need for this costume:

  • Light blue scrubs, pencil skirt with patterned blouse and cardigan, or a bright-coloured fitted dress
  • Sneakers or heels, depending on scrubs or dress
  • White lab coat
  • Black, thick rim glasses
  • A pair of big, colourful earrings
  • Stethoscope
  1. 4. Dr. Frankenstein:

What could possibly be scarier than a scientist who studies the chemical process of decaying human beings? Known as one of fiction’s most extreme doctors, Dr. Frankenstein dug up and collected pieces of dead bodies from graves so that he could sew them together to make his own living creature – the Frankenstein Monster.

Dr. Frankenstein is an easy and classic choice for your Halloween costume.
